South Dakota Wing hosted an online Intermediate Training Leaders of Cadets (TLC)  class this weekend. Twenty-five CAP members, from seven of the eight Civil Air Patrol regions, attended, including a few who were both renewing their qualifications and instructing modules.

“This is the most attendees South Dakota Wing has had at a TLC Basic or Intermediate virtual course,” said Lt Col Linda Buechler, project officer and South Dakota Wing director of cadets. “I am so pleased and amazed that we have the seven regions represented.  I'm sure that all walk away with a greater knowledge of how the TLC can equip adults to help cadets grow within the Cadet Program.”

Training Leaders of Cadets is the premiere venue for CAP’s Cadet Program officers to learn how to become better mentors of cadets and more effective managers of cadet squadrons. The three-course program, basic, intermediate and advanced, is a component of the Cadet Programs Officer Specialty Track but is recommended for all members who work with CAP’s youth members. Members are expected to renew their qualifications every four years.

The intermediate course hosted by South Dakota Wing focuses on how local CAP leaders serve cadets with special needs, methods for positive and indirect leadership, and major national and wing activity programs.
