C/CMSgt Dominic Clement soloed on Wednesday of this week in N98776. His instructor, Lt. Col. Craig Goodrich made the announcement of the Wednesday solo flight. Rushmore Composite Squadron will present a new name tag for his flight suit and CAP Solo wings for his blues at the next appropriate squadron meeting.
Clement's solo was made possible by a $750 solo scholarship from South Dakota Wing. He joined CAP in 2020.
Commander's Emphasis Items
- N98776: CAP National Headquarters has selected N98776 for sale, due to its age. We don't have a timeline yet. The Cessna 172P was built in 1985 and if not sold would need an engine replacement soon. South Dakota Wing hopes to receive a replacement aircraft, but that decision is in the future.
- Cadet Wings National Flight Scholarship applications open July 1 and close Sept 15. Early applicants tend to get preference. (Details here)
- Absorb New Learning Management System: CAP National Headquarters will reportedly not be quite ready for the new CAP learning management system, Absorb, to go live June 25, as previously planned. Members should still back up their records from the current system, Axis, and complete any in-progress Axis courses/modules. More time is needed to ensure proper transfer of content and records to the new system, according to the announcement in this week's nationanl PROPS newsletter.
