Close to 90 members participated in the South Dakota Wing Conference April 12-14 in Sioux Falls. Thank you to everyone who made the conference happen but special thanks the committee, Capt Denise Clement, Col Mary Donley, and Lt Col Bill Strandell.

Cadet of the Year - Cadet Col Keon den Hoed, Sioux Falls Composite Squadron
Senior of the Year - Lt Col Craig Goodrich, SDWG Director of Emergency Services and Director of Finance
Squadron of the Year (overall excellence) - Rushmore Composite Squadron, Rapid City
Congratulations to Isla Rohde, Lookout Mountain Composite Squadron, for earning her Billy Mitchell Award.
May SAREX will reactivate a 50-year-old search - experienced Ground Team Members needed! South Dakota Wing will help the Bureau of Indian Affairs to look for evidence in the 1974 disappearance of a girl who went missing while walking cross-country in a snowstorm. Delema Sits Poor, age 12, was never found. The search, including CAP and several other agencies and volunteers, is scheduled for Mother’s Day Weekend, Friday evening May 10, Saturday May 11, and Sunday morning May 12. South Dakota Wing, Civil Air Patrol, is “effective” in its ability to accomplish its missions safely, efficiently, and effectively. The rating followed a staff assistance visit (SAV) by the Air Force North Central Liaison Region. (Read more)

Memorial: The family of a man whose crashed airplane SDWG found 30 years ago will visit Lookout Mountain Composite Squadron in May. The squadron has a memorial marker for the search at their squadron headquarters building. The squadron will host a memorial ceremony for the visiting family members, scheduled for May 2.
