- Former Pierre Composite Squadron commander Forrest Wixon passed away on December 4th at the age of 88 years old in Pierre SD. Forrest first joined CAP in 1982 when his daughter was a cadet. He rejoined in 1998. During his time in CAP, Forrest served as mission pilot and instructor pilot and also as the Pierre Composite Squadron’s Operations Officer, and Deputy Commander. He served as Pierre Squadron Commander for a term ending in 2019. Forrest served as an FAA Safety Counselor for many years and was an FAA Safety Team member for the Pierre area. Forrest was inducted into the SD Aviation Hall of Fame in 2017. As a flight instructor, he taught over 130 South Dakotans to fly. Visitation is Sunday, with a memorial service Monday in Pierre and burial in Black Hills National Cemetary. (Read Forrest's obituary)

- Joint Dakota Encampment is now accepting applications for cadet executive staff and all senior member positions. (Read more)
- Cyberpatriot teams from Big Sioux and Rushmore Composite Squadrons were among 214 CAP teams in the first two rounds of the All-Service division. Big Sioux scored 346.63 points and placed 60th, advancing to the State Round in the Platinum Tier. Rushmore scored 76 points and placed 199th, advancing to the State Round in the Silver Tier. The top 25% of teams in each tier in the State Round will advance to the Semifinals round in January.

- C/2Lt Aaron Johnson earned the Brigadier General Billy Mitchell Award on November 23, 2023, Rushmore Composite Squadron.
- C/CMSgt James Stolley has assumed the position of Pierre Composite Squadron Cadet Commander. Cadet Stolley joined CAP in April 2022 and progressed rapidly in the program. He was awarded the Air Force Sergeants Association Award for Outstanding Squadron Cadet Noncommissioned Officer of the Year in 2022. He is also the CAC primary member for Pierre and attends Riggs High School in Pierre. He succeeds C/CMSgt Joshua Vermundson as cadet commander.
